Subject:Top Honours for West Hill at Envirothon
The West Hill Secondary School Envirothon teams received first place at the 19th annual Grey Bruce Regional Envirothon competition held at Camp Celtic in Lion’s Head on May 4th, 2016. The senior team now advances to the provincial competition in Lindsay, which takes place from May 29th - June 1st, 2016.

Envirothon is an outdoors based team competition that builds environmental awareness and leadership among young people through practical, hands-on educational experiences.  The Envirothon program in Ontario is coordinated by Forests Ontario.  Locally, the event is organized and run through the Owen Sound office of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, and features four stations with questions and fieldwork challenges pertaining to soils, aquatics, wildlife, forestry and this year’s special topic, invasive species.

The West Hill senior team included:  Cole Radbourne, Gillian Wagenaar, Caleb Chappell, Rosalynn Aiken-Hall and Rose Menominee.  Members of the West Hill junior team were:  Nathan Clare-Green, Jessica Scheufen, Erik Van Kienboom and Adrien Wagenaar.  The teams would like to thank the many volunteers and sponsors for this event, including Bruce Power, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, Camp Celtic, Stewardship Grey Bruce, Bruce Grey Woodlands Association, Bruce County, Saugeen Conservation, Bruce Peninsula Biosphere Association, Bruce Peninsula National Park, and the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change.
