Subject:From the Director’s Office….
With a brand new school year upon us, I would like to take a moment to welcome all of our new and returning students, parents and guardians, trustees, staff, education partners and other members of our Bluewater District School Board school communities.  I hope that you had a safe and enjoyable summer.

The beginning of the school year is an exciting and transformative time for students and staff.  There are often feelings of uncertainty for students as they enter a new grade or even a new school, meet new classmates and teachers, and adapt to different courses.  New beginnings are especially pronounced this year for many in the Owen Sound and Meaford areas in light of the changes to school configurations.  I have every confidence that those students and staff who are transitioning will be warmly and enthusiastically welcomed in their new surroundings by their new peers and colleagues.

Speaking of transitions, it is a milestone year for our Link Crew program, which celebrates its 10th anniversary in our Bluewater secondary schools on September 6th.  Link Crew is a fantastic way to help ease the transition to secondary school for incoming Grade 9 students by pairing them with senior student mentors who have received special Link Leader training.

In Bluewater, there are still challenges and hard work ahead of us as we honour our strategic priority to ‘be accountable for the responsible stewardship of resources,’ which includes the necessity of right-sizing our instructional spaces.  While this is not always an easy road, we are confident that the end result will generate strengthened program and learning opportunities for our students and overall improved sustainability for our board.  I commend the tireless efforts, positivity and perseverance of our excellent staff throughout Bluewater during these transformative times.  Thanks are also extended to our many caring and dedicated parents, students and community partners who engaged in our recent accommodation reviews with their carefully constructed input and ideas.

I encourage you to stay connected to the latest board news by visiting our website at, or by following us on Twitter:  @BluewaterDSB

As always, I look forward to our continued work with school communities to uphold Bluewater’s vision of “Preparing Our Students Today for the World of Tomorrow.”

Thank you and best of luck in 2016 – 2017!
