Subject:WE Scare Hunger at Beavercrest
To:
The ME to WE group at Beavercrest Community School in Markdale is scaring away hunger.  For two straight weeks in October, the students collected canned goods, non-perishable food items, and change to support their local food drive.  The group held events, such as a haunted house and a dance, where the admission was two canned goods or non-perishable food items, or a two-dollar charge.  Every recess, a few students from the ME to WE group visited classes and collected the canned goods and non-perishables.  At the end of the two weeks, a final count took place before sending the proceeds to the food bank. The total number for canned goods and non-perishable food items was 440, and the amount of money raised totalled $190.51, which exceeded the group's goal and made the school and community proud!

The students who participated say they did so because there are many families in their community struggling with food insecurity, and they wanted to change this.  Now anyone who is in need can go to the local food bank and get the food collected at Beavercrest.
