Subject:JDSS Fashion Show Dazzles
To:
It was a fashionably entertaining evening at John Diefenbaker Senior School in Hanover on Friday, March 4th as the Fashion class held its James Bond themed fashion show. Approximately 200 people attended the sell-out event, which featured 2016 high school prom and grade 8 graduation dresses and tuxedos generously provided by local businesses.

Students in the class, who study fashion marketing and event planning, were involved in all aspects of planning, promoting and putting on the show.  This included using social media for promotion, applying graphics for ticket and poster designs, recruiting door prize donations from many local businesses, creating decorations, coordinating runway music, and writing the script to be delivered by a pair of emcees from grade 9.

The show featured 42 JDSS student models, including some from grade 8 classes, who wore grade 8 graduation dresses, as well as secondary students, who wore prom dresses.  Also making their JDSS runway debuts were two staff members:  teacher, Mr. Coutney, who also performed a guitar solo, and principal, Mr. DeKraker, who busted some moves!  Both showed they have talents that go beyond the classroom!

Other classes at JDSS were also involved in the production.  Foods students baked James Bond themed cupcakes, which were served at intermission, with beautiful cupcake toppers made by teacher, Ms. Sayers.  Mr. Kramar and his Visual Art students made an art installation that was featured at the back of the runway.  Using props donated by Mr. Bowles, Mr. Walter and his Construction students made the show look very professional by building the door prize and refreshments tables.

Helping the models to look their best were a number of local makeup artists and hairstylists, which included current and former JDSS students with a passion for studying fashion.

JDSS teachers Ms. Walker, Mr. Lau and Mr. van der Wal looked after sound and light for the show, along with their competent crew of students.  Stage management for the show was also handled by a dedicated student who worked tirelessly to ensure a truly magical evening for all.  Other staff helping out at the event included teachers Mrs. Bender, Ms. Damm, Ms. Emmerton, Ms. Mackay, Ms. Peiman, Mr. Wilkinson, and vice-principals, Ms. Hurst and Ms. Bell.

Many thanks are also extended to the local businesses and entrepreneurs who supported the event with their generosity.  It takes a village to raise a great show!
