Subject:MCS Curlers win Provincial Runner-up Medals
Meaford junior curlers were in Gananoque from April 7 - 9 to compete in the annual provincial elementary school championships.  The event began with 54 teams of students from across Ontario, including a group of enthusiastic curlers from Meaford Community School coached by teacher Tracy McNally and sponsored by the Meaford Curling Club.

Although they lost their first game by a score of 6-2 to fellow Bluewater District School Board curlers from Beavercrest Community School in Markdale, they were able to hold their place in the B side division.  Team Meaford won against Centennial Public School of Waterloo 8-2 and Aurora's Lester B. Pearson Public School with a score of 5-3.  With this win, they found themselves in the championship game for the B division.  Their final game against College Catholique Franco-Ouest of Ottawa produced a great start, but ended in an 8-2 loss.

The team was awarded with runner-up medals for the B division, which marked an honourable end to their curling season.  Coach McNally commented on the team’s success:  “In all their outings, the curlers showed impressive teamwork and sports etiquette, in addition to improving technical and strategic skills.  We are really proud of these kids.  They worked hard all season.  A great bunch of kids to coach.”

Next year’s competition will be held in Chesley in March.
