Subject:First Time Full Time Certifies Students
Bluewater District School Board students were among approximately 350 youth from our area who participated in the 12th Annual First Time Full Time Conference in Owen Sound on May 3 and 4, 2017.  Two days of classes provided participating students with the opportunity to obtain career related certifications in a number of areas.  These included:  First Aid/CPR “C”; Fork Lift Operation; Mental Health First Aid; Skid Steer Operation; AG Livestock Medicine; Behaviour Management; Be Your Own Boss; Smart Serve; Working at Heights; AG Grower Pesticide; and Service Savvy.

First Time Full Time allows Grade 12 students who plan to directly enter the workforce to bolster their resumes with certifications that will give them a leg up in gaining employment in their chosen sectors.  Some students require these courses as part of the Specialist High Skills Major program, while others use them to enter the workforce, either on a full-time basis or to gain summer employment.

“Many of our First Time Full Time facilitators have been delivering these certifications for several years.  It so gratifying to hear them tell us about the many recertifications they do in their industries with former students who used their First Time Full Time certifications as a springboard to getting their first career related full time jobs,” says Learning Services Administrator Blair Hilts.
