Subject:School Improvement Planning for Student Achievement
To:
On May 4 and 5, school teams from across Bluewater District School Board participated in School Improvement Planning for Student Achievement at the Bluewater Education Centre in Chesley.  Teams of administrators and teachers from each school collaborated to analyze data, celebrate successes, establish goals, and plan professional learning for the year ahead.

This year, two videos highlighted work from schools within the board.  Staff from Highpoint Community School in Dundalk shared how they used achievement data to inform school actions, and how co-planning impacted instructional practice and student achievement.  Video clips included students demonstrating their thinking and learning through the use of various manipulatives.  The afternoon video highlighted Grades 7 to 10 cross panel numeracy and literacy inquiries designed to identify specific student learning needs, co-plan targeted instruction, and collect evidence to determine impact.  Brent Thompson from Hepworth Central Public School shared how he benefited from involvement in one of the inquiries.

Over one hundred staff attended on each of the days.  Planning for student achievement is ongoing, however, these days allow school teams to begin the process for the year ahead.
