Subject:Bullying Awareness & Prevention Week 2017
Through targeted awareness campaigns, classroom learning activities, and extracurricular opportunities, Bluewater District School Board students and staff are active participants in promoting safe, accepting, equitable, and inclusive school environments  where all members are best positioned to succeed. Student and staff well-being remains one of the key priorities in Bluewater’s Multi-Year Strategic Plan.

Image of handprint surrounded by colourful artwork drawn on glass with slogan, "You Are Beautiful" During Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week, a provincially designated occasion which occurs this year from November 19 to 25, Bluewater schools continue to honour their pledge to stand up to all forms of bullying.  Parents/guardians and other members of our school communities are invited to join the cause by inviting conversations about the impact of bullying and ways that we can all play a part in ensuring safe and accepting communities.

For example, at John Diefenbaker Senior School in Hanover, a wall poster display was created on “RESPECT” and “What is bullying and how to handle it”.  The library created a window display on the difference between conflict and bullying, and has been promoting novels all week long on various forms of bullying, prevention strategies, and global issues. Daily announcements have incorporated bullying statistics and strategies, and treat bags have been distributed to all teachers, educational support professionals, and office staff to hand out during the week whenever they witness “random acts of kindness” in the classroom, halls or at recess.

Bullying awareness campaigns throughout the school year, such as Pink Shirt Day in February and the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia in May, are a few other examples of commonly recognized occasions within Bluewater.  Schools across the district also recently honoured Treaties Recognition Week, which included activities and presentations that adhered to the themes of equity and inclusivity.
