The Board’s Special Education Advisory Committee met on December 14, 2006 at the Chesley Administration

The following items were presented:

An audit has been completed on December 8th by the Ministry on the CODE project. The Board Team and two school teams, from Derby and Arran-Tara were interviewed by the auditors. Second audit to be conducted in May.
Mike Bauman has been hired to replace Karen Moss for Western Area Resource Teacher.
Positive feedback has been received for the Marzano Modules that are being presented.
Let’s Learn Clinics are complete.
As of January 1st, CCAC will be part of LHINs. Bluewater schools are within 3 different LHINs. The south east area will include Simcoe-Muskoka and Dufferin-Wellington LHINs. The therapist currently working in the schools will remain the same. The case managers may change throughout the district.
The committee discussed at length the memo from Ben Levin regarding IEP’s and IPRCs
Lori updated the committee on the expectations for the Special Education Plan. This year was supposed to be a complete review.  We have been directed to do amendments only this year. A SEAC representative will be asked to join the committee to review the Special Education Plan. Ministry directive will be that the Special Education Plan be aligned with other plans within the Board. Focus will be on target setting and programming for students. Ministry is still in the planning stages for this document.
Sandy Ribey, Brain Injury Association gave an overview of her association.
Bruce and Grey have the highest incident rate of acquired brain injury Links in the website contain additional information and resources.
Carolynn Dyer presented an overview of the Marzano modules that are being presented as professional development.
DVDs have been created using Bluewater teachers and classrooms. Instructional strategies included in each module.
