Link Crew Day September 4, 2007
Fifteen hundred grade nine students and two hundred and fifty senior Link Crew Leaders took part in Link Crew day activities at ten secondary schools on the first day of school.  Trustees were on hand at Chesley District High School to view Link Crew activities there first hand.  The report detailed activities that took place throughout the day beginning with a morning assembly, a shortened time table, locker assignments and other activities.  Senior students will meet for debriefing at each school and will have an opportunity to provide feedback on the success of the day.  A suggestion was made that the feedback from all secondary schools be summarized and made available to the committee.

Bluewater Financial Support of Activities
Mary Anne and Steven summarized funding that is provided for school activities such as Performing Arts, Regional Skills, the Water Festival, Science Fair, Bluewater Athletic Association, Concours, Music Camp and Ontario Scholars.  Funding originates from community sponsors, student/school contributions and the Board budget.  Due to budget constraints, the Board contribution has been decreased in some areas to promote consistency of support.   Mary Anne will seek information from other boards across the province regarding how compensation for Ontario scholars is undertaken as the province does not provide funding and the number of recipients has grown.

Student Success Program
Alana provided a summary of funding received in support of Student Success programs in Bluewater.  More than $300,000 will be received including $50,000 to continue the Agri-Business program at Chesley District High School and $100,000 in support of the Environmental High Skills pilot project at Bruce Peninsula District School, Georgian Bay Secondary School and Grey Highlands Secondary School.  Three of twelve Lighthouse proposals were approved including Enjimshkoowendmaan (Where My Mind is Strong) a Coop program at Saugeen District Secondary school in support of First Nation students, the GROW (Gaining a Realistic Outlook for Wellness) program at Georgian Bay Secondary School and the Phoenix Project in support of First Nation students at Peninsula Shores District School.

As part of the School College Work initiative, the Board will again partner with the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board and Georgian College to provide a night school course in Human Behaviour in the Workplace.

Additional Placements of Principals/Vice-Principals For September 1, 2007
Alana and Marnie provided information on additional administrator placements that were required due to a leave of absence and an unexpected vice-principal vacancy that needed to be filled. The leadership process will take place before the end of the year in order to place people on the principal and vice-principal placement lists.  The Association of Bluewater Executive continues to play a role in encouraging and supporting potential leaders within schools to step forward to the administrative role.
