The following items were presented:
Updates:
•     SEAC was reminded about the Implementation Plan and training that has occurred in regards to PPM 140, Incorporating Methods of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) into Programs for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).  Bluewater has already conducted many training opportunities.  In April, Thames Valley Children’s Centre will be offering additional training to all principals and vice-principals.  Geneva Centre will be offering more training for Educational Assistants on April 11th involving ABA in the classroom.
•     The Profile of Exceptional Students both provincially and in Bluewater was discussed.•     An update regarding the Accommodation Review process was given.
•     The Ministry is hosting a Safe Schools symposium at the end of March.  Bluewater will be sending a team consisting of Student Services and Keystone staff.  Boards will be sharing successful practices.  Bluewater has been asked to present and Lori, Bev McNeil and Dennis Boyle will be doing the presentation.•     The Barrie region Superintendent with responsibility for Special Education presented a concept to the Ministry Special Education branch.  Approval has been granted for us to pilot an assessment tool for students not working on the Ontario curriculum.•     A Provincial Skills Certificate is being developed by the Ministry for early school leavers or those not working towards a diploma.  It is just in the development stages and they are asking boards for successful practices.
Agenda Items:
•     SEAC was given an update on our partnership with Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO).  One of the outcomes is that teachers have a better understanding of the difficulties with students’ learning.  We are the only board who is participating in this specific project.•     The plan, at this point, for long term suspended/expelled pupil program was outlined.  Keystone will support the non-academic portion.
