The Policy Committee received and discussed the following reports and policies.

•     Pesticides, Including Insecticides and Herbicides
•     Community Education and Community Use of Schools
•     Environmental Sustainability
•     Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment – Disposal
•     Tobacco Free Environment
•     Student Awards and Recognition
•     Dress Code

The committee reviewed Policy BP 3862-D “Pesticides, Including Insecticides and Herbicides” because of recent legislative changes that brought into effect a cosmetic pesticide ban as of April 22nd, 2009.  The policy provided for limited use of products in conjunction with agreements with municipalities and joint use of playing fields.  With the enactment of the new legislation that use is no longer applicable as stated in the policy and it was recommended by the Committee that the Board rescind this policy.

The rental schedule attached as Appendix A to Policy BP 5902-D “Community Education and Community Use of Schools” was reviewed through an annual cyclical review process.  Committee members were advised that costs associated with rental rates for OSCVI were now included in the schedule and that changes had been made to some of the Group II and Group III rates to make the rate schedule consistent in each category.

Policy BP 2105-D “Environmental Sustainability” was returned from system review and the committee noted the number of responses and the detail. Responses were reviewed and the committee provided staff with direction on revisions to the policy and tabled further discussion until the next meeting of the committee.

Policy BP 6601-D “Student Awards and Recognition” was returned from system review and the committee recommended that it be approved by the Board.

Policy BP 1404-D (formerly BP 6822-D) “Dress Code” was returned from system review.  One comment was received that provided for extensive revisions of the policy.  The committee determined that the content of the input was consistent with procedural issues not policy and they directed staff to review the comments and consider if an administrative procedure would be required.  It was decided that Policy BP 1404-D “Dress Code” be reviewed again in one year.

Policy BP 3402-D “Furniture, fixtures and Equipment – Disposal” and BP 1415-D “Tobacco Free Environment” were tabled until the next meeting of the committee.
