The Policy Committee received and discussed the following reports and policies.

•     Environmental Sustainability•     Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment – Disposal•     Tobacco Free Environment•     Field Trips•     Aboriginal Self Identification •     Assault, Sexual Abuse Professional Misconduct Involving Board Staff•     Board Operations
The committee reviewed responses received to Policy BP 2105-D “Environmental Sustainability” agreeing that some of the suggestions should be incorporated into the procedure.  The committee recommended that the name of the policy which was “Recycling” be changed to “Environmental Sustainability” and that it be approved as amended.  It was also recommended that once revised to incorporate the suggestions the procedure will be brought back to the committee as an information item.  The committee also recommended that the Board establish an “Environmental Issues Committee”.

The committee reviewed Policy BP 3402-D   “Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment – Disposal” and BP 7522-D “Assault, Sexual Abuse Professional Misconduct Involving Board Staff” through the cyclical review process recommending that both be endorsed as previously approved.  Policies BP 1415-D “Tobacco Free Environment”, BP 5602-D “Field Trips” and BP 6302-D “Aboriginal Self Identification” were reviewed and recommended to the Board as amended.

It was also agreed that a sub-committee of the Policy Committee would be established to review the Board By-Laws that are linked to Policy BP 1501-D “Board Operations” and that a preliminary report would be brought back to the committee.


Recommendations


THAT Bluewater District School Board approve Policy BP 2105-D “Recycling” to “Environmental Sustainability” and approve the policy as amended; and
THAT the Board establish an “Environmental Issues Committee” with trustee, staff and student representation.
THAT Bluewater District School Board endorse Policy BP 3402-D “Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment - Disposal” as previously approved.
THAT Bluewater District School Board approve Policy BP 1415-D    "Tobacco Free Environment” as amended
THAT Bluewater District School Board approve Policy BP 5602-D “Field Trips” as amended.
THAT Bluewater District School Board approve changing the name of Policy BP 6302-D “Aboriginal Self Identification” to “First Nation, Métis and Inuit Self Identification” and approve the policy as amended.
THAT Bluewater District School Board endorse Policy BP 7522-D “Assault, Sexual Abuse and Professional Misconduct Involving Board Staff” as previously approved.
