Board Meeting Highlights

Janet Glasspool administered the Declaration to student trustee Heather Weber representing John Diefenbaker Secondary School.
Excellence in Education
•     Foundations for Learning
Janet Glasspool presented the Bluewater “Foundations for Learning” document and highlighted the Vision, Beliefs and Image of the Learner sections of the document.
•     Career Focus for Students
Several staff members from Chesley District High School were recognized for their efforts in organizing a very successful career day. Adelle DeLong was recognized for coordinating an event facilitated by the ETFO Bluewater Local entitled “I Can Do Anything Career Awareness for Girls”.
•     Inclusive Educator of the Year Award
Joyce Wolfe, teacher at Elgin Market Public School, was recognized for being selected by the Coaching to Inclusion Steering Committee of the Greater London area, to receive an Inclusive Educator of the Year Award.

Policy Committee

Business Committee
The Board approved the sale of a strip of land in front of Walkerton District Secondary in order that the Ministry of Transportation may widen Highways 4 and 9. Staff will proceed with preparation of legal documents for an easement across Board property in Mildmay. The easement will allow the school to connect into the sanitary sewer system.

Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC)
Trish Shouldice was appointed as a member and Karen Nunn as the alternate member of the SEAC. They will represent the Community Care Access Centre.

Summer School Update
David Armstrong and Torben Hawkesbridge described the success of the summer school program for grade eight and secondary school students.

Field Trips
•     The Board approved a field trip for Chesley District High School students to travel to England from March 10 18, 2000.
•     The Board approved a field trip for Saugeen District Secondary School senior history students to travel to Washington, D.C., from April 27 April 30, 2000.

Health and Social Services Partnerships
Michelle Forge presented a report on recent partnerships developed to enhance the delivery of special education programs and services in Bluewater schools. The report described support for speech therapy for junior kindergarten students, a program to provide social workers in schools, and a program for students with serious behaviour problems.

Auditors' Report
Peter Thor from BDO Dunwoody reviewed the Auditors’ Report and Financial Statements for the eight month period ending August 31, 1998.

Protocol Guidelines for Information Sharing
A protocol for sharing of information between local police agencies and local school boards has been developed.

Transfer of Inspired by Nature Activities
The Board approved the transfer of the balance of funds in the Inspired by Nature bank account to the Bruce-Grey Public Education Foundation.
