DECLARATION OF TRUSTEE
Marie Mason was sworn in as Trustee representing Saugeen First Nation.

EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION
•     Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) School Safety Patrol
Michael Beauchesne, Traffic Safety Co-ordinator for CAA, presented a print to Chair Jennifer Yenssen as Bluewater was one of the first Ontario school boards to adopt the CAA Safety Program in all of its elementary schools.
•     Community Partnership
John Diefenbaker Secondary School John Diefenbaker Secondary School has developed a partnership with 17 groups and agencies to provide assistance to students living in rural areas. Agencies and groups involved in the partnerships include Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound Health Unit, The Children’s Aid Society, the South Bruce Grey Police Services, Choices, Victim Assistance Program and Georgian College.
•     Web Page Design
Rob Davidson, James A. Magee Community School Rob Davidson, James A. Magee Community School, was recognized for his development of the “Problem of the Week” web page. Each week a math problem is posted and students have an opportunity to solve it.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
Report of the Principal - Vice-Principal Staffing Committee
Donna Atkinson, principal of Meaford Community School will retire effective December 31, 1999. The Board acknowledged with thanks her contribution to education.
Rick Galbraith, current principal of Macphail Memorial Elementary School in Flesherton, will transfer to be principal of Meaford Community School effective January 1, 2000.

Policy Committee Report
The Board approved Policy BP 6803-D - Nutrition.

EDUCATIONAL ISSUES COMMITTEE
•     Early Dismissal for New Curriculum Implementation
The Board postponed a decision regarding an early dismissal plan that would provide time for teacher in-service on secondary school reform. A decision will be made when the Board has received additional background data and input from staff and community. •     Grade 3 and Grade 6 Provincial Assessment
Mary Anne Alton, Superintendent of Elementary Education, provided details on the results of the Grade 3 and Grade 6 Provincial Assessments. By December 1 schools will release a school report containing a summary of the results achieved by all Grade 3 and Grade 6 students in the school.
•     Field Trips
A field trip from May 2-5, 2000 to Boston/Plymouth for senior level history students at Kincardine District Secondary School was approved.
