Board Meeting Highlights

December 14, 1999

Ron Motz was appointed as Chair and Judy Galoska was appointed as Vice-Chair at the Initial Meeting of the Board. Jennifer Yenssen will Chair the Business Committee; Norene Pilkington will continue to Chair the Policy Committee and Carolyn Day will continue to Chair the Educational Issues Committee.

Reports From Committee-of-the-Whole In Closed Session
Principal/Vice-Principal Staffing Committee Report
•     Mary Winn Daykin, Behaviour Lead Teacher at the Chesley Administration Centre, will be promoted to be the acting vice-principal of Strathcona Senior Public School effective January 1, 2000.
•     Jan Dawson, teacher at Macphail Memorial Elementary School, will be promoted to be the acting vice-principal of Beavercrest Community School as of January 1, 2000

Policy Committee Report
The following policies were approved:
BP 6513-D - Bus Safety
BP 7525-D - Employment Equity

Business Committee Report
The Board approved the Maintenance Supervisor and Secretarial Support positions as provided for in the 1999-2000 budget.

Y2K Readiness
A communication pamphlet has been distributed to students, parents and staff regarding Y2K readiness.

School Name Change
The Board approved the change of name of Amabel-Hepworth Central Public School to Hepworth Central Public School effective September 1, 2000.

Request for International Exchange
Approval has been granted to two staff members to make application for an International Education Exchange.

Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program Funding
The Board received notification that the funding application for the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program for the 1999-2000 school year has been approved in the amount of $50,000.00.

Working to Reinforce All Partners Program (WRAP)
The Board has received verbal confirmation that funding from Grey County Social Services in the amount of $114,966.00 has been approved to support programs for students with special behavioural and emotional needs. This is funding through the National Children’s Benefit Reinvestment Program.
