PRESENTATION TO THE BOARD
Jan Stocovaz, president of the Bluewater Athletic Association, presented the Board with a plaque of appreciation from the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSSA), Central Western Ontario Secondary Schools (CWOSSA), and the Bluewater Athletic Association (BAA) for its support of Bluewater students competing at the provincial level.

RECOGNITION OF EXCELLENCE
•     Breakfast/Nutrition Programs - Recognized for their part in Bluewater District School Board programs were: Ernestine McKenna, Canadian Living Foundation; Beverlee Gateman, Community Partners Co-ordinator (Brockton area); Renee Abram, Project Co-ordinator, Eat and Learn Project (Owen Sound area); and Rosanne Gallinger, Principal, Sullivan Central School. Ernestine McKenna indicated that 28 schools in Bluewater already have Breakfast/Nutrition programs and eight schools are in the process of implementing programs. She outlined the reasons the program is needed and the positive results of the program.
•     Dawnview Public School – Newspaper Publication Dawnview staff, students and volunteers, as well as Hanover Post newspaper staff combined efforts to produce a newspaper. Teachers and students from two grade 5/6 classes at Dawnview outlined the steps required to bring this project to completion and the learning opportunities it provided.

DELEGATION WHERE PRIOR NOTICE HAS NOT BEEN GIVEN
A delegation of Michelle Hettrick, spokesperson, and Michelle Mink spoke to the Board regarding the Transportation Policy.

REPORTS FROM CLOSED SESSION MEETING
Judy Galoska stated that three motions were being brought forward to Board:
•     The Board approved the appointment of Marnie Coke as the Superintendent of Instruction, Grades 7-9 effective August 14, 2000 on a three-year term basis.
•     The Board received the report of the Principal/Vice-Principal Staffing Committee for elementary panel placements for the 2000-2001 School Year.
•     The Board received the report of the Principal/Vice-Principal Staffing Committee for secondary panel placements for the 2000-2001 School Year.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
Business Committee Reports
•     The Board received the Auditor’s Report and Financial Statements for the period September 1, 1998 to August 31, 1999 and will publish a notice in all newspapers in both Counties advising that the Financial statements are available on the Board’s website or from the Administration Centre, Chesley.
•     The Board agreed to support the Bruce Peninsula District School gymnasium floor project to a maximum of $25,000 pending budget approval and written guarantee of payment by the community group of any expenditures in excess of this amount.

Educational Issues
Owen Sound Brockton Focus Project – a project to prevent and reduce alcohol and other drug abuse, and related injuries. Martha Barrett, teacher at Walkerton District School; and Linda Davies of the Owen Sound Health Unit, provided the Board with information about the Project.

STAFF REPORTS
•     Regional Science and Technology Fair 2000
John Lennon presented an information report on the Senior Fair (April 5) and the Junior Fair (April 12). There were approximately 450 entries. Six Bluewater gold medal winners will go on to the Canada-Wide Science Fair (May 15-19) in London, Ontario.
•     Amendments to the Special Education Plan
The Board approved the Amendments to the Special Education Plan 1999 for submission to the Ministry of Education.
•     Student Accommodation Report
The Board approved the continuation of the review process in accordance with Board Policy 3101-D for Eastnor Central School (Lion’s Head), St. Edmunds Public School (Tobermory), Bruce Peninsula District School – Secondary (Lion’s Head), Wiarton District High School, Ripley-Huron Community School (Sr. Campus), Highpoint Community School (Dundalk), and Macphail Memorial Elementary School (Flesherton).

COMMUNICATIONS
Staff/Trustees
Heather Weber, student trustee, John Diefenbaker Secondary School, thanked the Board for the opportunity to attend and represent Bluewater at the National Student Forum hosted by SEVEC and the Canadian Association of Principals.
