DECLARATION - STUDENT TRUSTEES
Janet Glasspool administered the Declaration to student trustees:
Reid McIver - Bruce Peninsula District School; Megan Hamel - Chesley District High School; Matt Klein – Georgian Bay Secondary School; Jennifer McConnell - Grey Highlands Secondary School; Josie Becker – John Diefenbaker Secondary School; Scott Brown – Kincardine District Secondary School; Sarah Carmichael – Owen Sound Collegiate & Vocational Institute; James Scongack – Saugeen District Secondary School; Adam Kahgee – Saugeen District Secondary School, Saugeen First Nation; Amy Dietz – Walkerton District Secondary School; Jillian Strimas – West Hill Secondary School; Shannon Gottschall – Wiarton District High School; Brandon Jones – Wiarton District High School, Chippewas of Nawash.

RECOGNITION OF EXCELLENCE
•     Walkerton Crisis – Mike Booth, Manager of Plant and Sites, was recognized for his leadership during the Walkerton water crisis.
•     Grade 9 Learning Strategies – West Hill Secondary School Jaye Wigston and Larry Rehkopf were recognized for developing a unique course for Grade 9 students entitled “Learning Strategies/Skills for Success in Secondary School”.

REPORTS FROM COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE IN CLOSED SESSION
•     Low Population Municipality
The Board has decided not to designate any municipality within the board’s area of jurisdiction as a low population municipality.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
Special Education Advisory Committee Report
Deidrie Gardner was appointed as a member of the Special Education Advisory Committee. She will represent the Learning Disabilities Association, Owen Sound Satellite.

EDUCATIONAL ISSUES
Provision of Physical and/or Medical Assistance within the School
The Board received a resource manual entitled “Provision of Physical and/or Medical Assistance in the School”. The manual contains information on a diverse range of medical and physical conditions for children with special needs. The purpose of the manual is to provide general information and teaching strategies for teachers and support staff who work with special needs students.

Passport to Prosperity
Marshall Draper, Management Consultant, presented a project entitled “A Research, Assessment and Implementation to Enhance the Transition from School-to-Work in Bruce and Grey Counties” to the Board. The project goals included collection of statistical data on the co-op placements from each of the secondary schools in the Grey Bruce catchment area and increasing employer awareness of and participation in the transition programs.

CORRESPONDENCE
•     Ministry of Education – The Board received a letter advising that the Ministry has completed its preliminary review of the 2000/2001 budget estimates and Bluewater District School Board has met the requirements.
•     Ministry of Education – The Board received a letter advising that Ministry funding will be made available to offset the cost of the installation and operation of alternative water supplies for the schools in Walkerton.
•     The City of Owen Sound – The Board received a letter thanking the board, staff and its contractors for their efforts in maintaining an attractive site at the former OSCVI site.
