February 20, 2001

Individual Education Plan for Dummies - Karen Henderson, Learning Resource Teacher at Hillcrest Elementary School, was recognized for developing three step-by-step manuals for teachers. These manuals include the Electronic Individual Education Plan for Dummies, Report Cards for Dummies and the newly released eTeacher for Dummies.

Bruce Peninsula District School Gym Floor - Community members Tim Matheson and Roger Stevens and staff members Mark Klages and John Gamble were recognized for their leadership and work in replacing the gym floor at Bruce Peninsula District School. In June 1999, members of Bruce Peninsula District School purchased the gym floor at the OSCVI auction. After 18  months, this project involving staff, students and community members is now complete.

Committee of the Whole Board
Trustee Vacancy
After reviewing the report on the trustee vacancy, the Board approved the recommendation to short-list the candidates from the Municipality of Kincardine or the Township of Huron-Kinloss and interview only those candidates.

Business Committee Report
The Board received a report of the Superintendent of Business regarding the 1999-2000 Year End Financial Position which outlined variances in grant revenues and expenditures resulting in a net deficit of $2,138,000. The Board received the Auditor’s Report and the Financial Statements for the period September 1, 1999 to August 31, 2000 and approved publication of a notice in all  newspapers in Bruce and Grey Counties advising that the Financial Statements are available on the Board’s website or by contacting the Board’s Administration Centre in Chesley.

Integrated Services for Children
The Board received a report on Integrated Services for Children that provided an overview of findings of an evaluation of the Kid’s First Program, the Working to Reinforce all Partnerships Program (WRAP) and the integrated speech/language program. Bevan McNeil, author of the study undertaken for the Integrated Services for Children Division of the Ministry of Community and Social
Services; Dennis Boyle, Clinical Coordinator, Bruce Grey Children’s Services and Leslie Hastie, author of the evaluation study, presented this report to the Board.

Field Trip Request - Wiarton District High School
The Board approved a request from Wiarton District High School for a field trip to Paris, France from April 23 to May 1, 2001.
