EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION
Oath of Office
Jan Johnstone, Trustee representing the Municipality of Kincardine and the Township of Huron-Kinloss, took her Declaration and Oath of Allegiance.

RECOGNITION OF EXCELLENCE
Education Services Committee - The Education Services Committee, chaired by Gloria Morris, was recognized for providing exemplary staff development opportunities for Bluewater educational assistants.

COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE BOARD
Ratification of Elementary Collective Agreement
The Board ratified the collective agreement with ETFO, Bluewater Local, Elementary Teachers, for the term of September 1, 2000 to August 31, 2001.

Extension of CUPE Local 1176 Collecive Agreement
The Board ratified the extension of the collective agreement with CUPE Local 1176 to August 31, 2001.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
Policy Committee Report
• The Board approved the following amended policies:
BP 1601 – The Development and Implementation of Board Policy
BP 7371 – Staff Appointments

School Year Calendar
The Board approved the School Year Calendar for 2001-2002.

EDUCATIONAL ISSUES
Field Trip Request – Grey Highlands S.S
The Board approved a request from Grey Highlands Secondary School for a field trip to Temagami, Ont. from May 31 to June 15, 2001.

Encouraging Leadership - Information was presented to the Board on two series of workshops. The Emerging Leadership
Series is designed for educators who will aspire to and achieve positions of leadership within the schools. The Energizing Me Series is designed for staff and members of School Community Councils. This series provides participants with skills, strategies, and information to help them feel empowered and confident in their role.

STAFF REPORTS
Ministry of Education Transportation Implementation Project
The student transportation consortium of Bluewater District School Board and Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board has been chosen by the Ministry of Education as a pilot test site. This pilot project uses Bus Stops computer software to study new approaches to funding student transportation.

COMMUNICATION
Ministry of Education (ISA) Level One Equipment Claims
A review of a random sample of student files relevant to the Board’s claim for Intensive Support Amount Level One Equipment funding was completed by the Ministry of Education. All files examined were very effectively maintained and all met the criteria. Bluewater will receive a total of $120,000 to fund specialized equipment for 37 students.

Elementary Teachers’ Federation Seeds Project for Schools
Cynthia Lemon, President of ETFO, Bluewater Local, outlined the Seeds of Learning Public Relations campaign.

The Greening Walkerton Initiative
The Board formally endorsed the Greening Walkerton Initiative.
