RECOGNITION OF EXCELLENCE
Grey Highlands Secondary School
The Hospitality and Tourism and Environmental Science programs of Grey Highlands Secondary School were recognized for being at the leading edge of development in transition from school to work classes.

Bluewater Public Speaking
Cody Owens was recognized for being the Senior Division winner at the County of Bruce Elementary School Public Speaking Championship. Robyn Smith was recognized for being the Intermediate Division French Immersion winner at Le Concours/Festival D’Art Oratoire. Both students presented their speeches to the Board.

David Armstrong, Superintendent of Community Relations for Bluewater, will become the Director of Education effective August 1, 2001.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
Policy Committee
The Board approved the amended policy BP 2805-D “Emergency Procedures – Bruce Nuclear Power Development”.

EDUCATIONAL ISSUES
Focus Project
An overview of the Focus Project was given by Martha Barrett and Linda Yenssen, members of the Focus Coalition.  This group works together to prevent and reduce alcohol and other drug abuse and related injuries.

Bluewater Regional Science and Technology Fair 2001
Information was presented on the recent Science and Technology Fair. Megan Burnside from Beavercrest Community School and Deanna Walker from Bruce Peninsula District School have advanced to the Canada-wide Science Fair.

COMMUNICATION
Ontario Public School Boards’ Association
Richard Gerson, Administrator of Employee Relations, won the $500.00 Shibley Righton scholarship at the recent O.P.S.B.A. Labour Relations Symposium. A graduating student continuing to post-secondary education and meeting specific criteria will receive the scholarship.
