Excellence in Education: Wiarton Public School Designated “Angels of Hope” 2005/06
Childview magazine, a publication produced by World Vision, an international relief development and humanitarian advocacy organization have designated Wiarton Public School as “Angels of Hope” 2005-06. The school is one of only two Canadian groups or individuals to receive this designation.

This recognition was for the accomplishment of raising over $16,000 to help build a school for children in a region of India affected by the tsunami that hit South Asia at the end of December 2004.

Six Grade 6 and 7 students (Grades 5 and 6 last year) from Wiarton Public School who spearheaded the campaign with the goal to raise $15,000 as well as several parent volunteers and their Principal were present to share the experience. They are: Morgan Porter (Gr. 7), Samantha Porter (Gr. 6), Tana-Rae Porter (Gr. 6), Ashton Mole (Gr. 6), Sierra Ellis (Gr. 6), and Katie White (Gr. 7). They worked with local businesses, churches, community groups and other Bluewater schools to reach and surpass their goal of $15,000. The additional money will go towards essentials such as blackboards, desks and writing equipment.
