Excellence in Education:
i)      Shibley Righton Student Scholarship
At the Ontario Public School Boards' Association 2005 Annual General Meeting, trustee, Carolyn Day, was the recipient of a $500 Student Scholarship for Post Secondary Education sponsored by Shibley Righton. This scholarship was to be awarded to a 2005 Bluewater graduate who met the following suggested criteria:
i.      an exceptional student with a learning disability and/or a physical disability;
ii.     an excellent academic record;
iii.    a student who has displayed a positive attitude towards his or her studies
iv.     a student who has overcome significant personal difficulties in order to achieve a secondary school diploma
v.      a student proceeding to trade or technical training; and
vi.     a student who has demonstrated good citizenship through a positive contribution to life at school and/or in the community.

Recipient of the Shibley Righton Scholarship, Jason Crone, a 2005 graduate of OSCVI, was present along with his parents to accept the scholarship. Jason suffered an injury playing hockey in the March Break of his grade 10 year that caused him to become a quadriplegic. His progress, his spirit and his sense of humour are an inspiration to all.

His parents expressed their appreciation to Bluewater and OSCVI for their assistance in helping Jason realize his graduation in 2005.

ii)     Remembrance Day - Nov. 11 (Kincardine): "Reading to Remember" with Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, The Honourable James K. Bartleman
"Reading to Remember" is a province-wide program sponsored by the Durham West Art Centre that encourages students in schools across the province to join together at 2:11 p.m. on November 11 to read the classic poem "In Flanders Fields" by John McCrae.

The Honourable James K. Bartleman met with Huron Heights students at 2:00 p.m. on November 11th. He walked through the assembled line of all students in the school parking lot and hallways and then met with a smaller group of students in the Library where they read "In Flanders Fields". Following the reading he spoke with the students and recounted several stories of war.
