Highlights of Meeting
As this was also the initial meeting of the Board, Director of Education, Mary Anne Alton presided until the election of the Chair. Both the position of Chair and Vice- Chair were acclamations of the incumbents, namely, Judy Galoska and Jennifer Yenssen.

Committee Reports:
1.      Policy Committee Report (Meeting of Nov. 15, 2005)
The Committee received and discussed the following Reports and Policies:

Records Management - referred to Records Management Supervisor for review and then to the Board Auditor for review.
Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment - Disposal - recommended Board approval as amended.
(The Board approved this Policy as amended.)

2.      Educational Issues Committee Report (Meeting of Dec. 6, 2005)
        The Committee received the following reports:

Celebration
1.
Bluewater had 115 recipients of the Queen Elizabeth II Aiming for the Top Scholarship. The scholarship rewards students who graduate with top marks at the high school level, and who plan to continue their studies at an placeStateOntario college or university.
2.
All Bluewater DSB secondary school students designated as Ontario Scholars will receive an Ontario Scholar certificate. As well, the Board gives each student fifty dollars and a letter of recognition.
Unlocking Our Children’s Potential Conference – the Director shared some of the highlights of the Nov. 24th & 25th, 2005 forum presented by The Council of Ministers of Education, placecountry-regionCanada and hosted by the Ontario Ministry of Education’s Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat.
YMCA Peace Medallion – Virginia Wiley, Bluewater Attendance Counsellor, and the O.S.C.V.I./West Hill Respect Group received the 2005 YMCA peace medallions for their work to make schools safer
Secondary Program and Review Conversations (SPARC) – members of the SPARC team presented a report and recommendations developed as a result of public conversation.

3.      Business Committee Report (Meeting of Dec. 6, 2005)
The Committee received the following reports:
        •     Update on Ministry Capital Grant Forecast
        •     James A. Magee Construction Update
        •     Financial Report (2004-05 Year End Position)
        •     Letter received from Laidlaw Education Services re impact on children from fuel emissions from buses and provincial standards.

Information Reports:


1.
Bruce-Grey Public Education Foundation – Institute for Outdoor Education and Environmental Studies.
The design for the proposed new facility at the Outdoor Education Centre was unveiled by the Foundation members. Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring in order for the new building to be ready for students in September. The drawings and plans can be accessed at www.oec.bwdsb.on.ca.
2.
Learning for a Lifetime: Annual Report of the Director of Education, December 2005. The Education Act (Section 283) requires an annual report by the Director of Education to the board in December on the actions taken during the preceding year. The report contained the following sections:
