Water Festival Recognition

Board of Trustees Chair, Jennifer Yenssen presented the Board with the plaque in honour of their 10 years of participation in the Water Festival.

Footprints Conference 2010

A presentation was made by the Superintendent of Student Success as well as a Student Senator and a Student Trustee on this year’s Footprint Conference – Exploring your Environment, hosted by Bruce Peninsula District School from September 22 to 24. The Specialist High Skills Major: Environmental Programming at BPDS was key to the planning and organization of the event. The objective of the conference was to expose students to opportunities within the environmental sector and the various skill sets that are required to work in those areas.
Workshops included Environmental Arts, Emergency Response/Search and Rescue, Hiking the Bruce Trail, Fly Fishing Basics and Local Food/Sustainable Communities. As well many participated in activities such as yoga, archery, orienteering, printmaking, renewable energy tour, and knot tying.


Bluewater Summer Activities

A staff presentation was made regarding activities during the summer. The 11th annual Bluewater Summer Institute was held at several sites across the district. Courses included Literacy Across the Curriculum, Comprehensive Literacy, The Continuum of Math Learning Grades 1-8 and many more.

As well, Bluewater schools were busy hosting art shows, computer camps, daycare, preschool and outreach programs, soccer camps, BWDSB Masters program, summer adult ESL, Music Festivals and many other events.

It was also a busy and exciting summer for the Institute for Outdoor Education and Environmental Studies (OEC). For two weeks in July, 50 day-campers aged 5 to 13 attended the Junior Gnats and Eco Adventures Day Camp program. During July and August Bluewater District School Board hosted exchange students from Korea who came to came to Bluewater as an English as a second language (ESL) experience. As well as morning ESL classes the Korean students visited areas such as Sauble Beach and the Bruce Caves as well as going horseback riding and other activities. One the weekends the student left the OEC and stayed with host families from around Bluewater. This Korean exchange partnership will continue next summer.

Student Wins Trip to Kenya

The Interim Director announced that a grade 12 student from Chesley district Secondary School won a trip to Kenya at the recent ‘We Day’ event in Toronto. The trip is for the student, five friends and two teachers.
