Community Education and Community Use of Schools
Rationale
Bluewater District School Board Foundations of Learning policy includes the following “Beliefs” statement:
“We believe in establishing reciprocal partnerships with business, industry, agencies and the community, in order to support learning.”
Bluewater District School Board recognizes the following components in its vision for Community Education:
• equitable access and opportunities across Bluewater District,
• programs for all ages in support of lifelong learning,
• programs that support and complement community programs,
• courses that provide credit and non-credit (interest and recreational),
• equitable costs to participants,
• budget for the total district Community Education program is on a cost recovery basis.

Policy
Bluewater District School Board understands that its primary purpose is to provide an education for day school students and that programs and activities related to day school activities will take precedence. In accordance with community education procedures, Bluewater District School Board is committed to fostering partnerships with its community so that community education programs are accessible to all community members.
RENTALS, COMMUNITY SCHOOL MEMBERSHIPS (CSMF) AND COMMUNITY YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS
Rentals:
Bluewater schools are available for use by the public. Contact the Community Education Co-ordinator in your area for more information. A rental fee based on the nature of the organization and the event will be charged.
Community School Membership Fees (CSMF):
Recreation groups and community organizations under a volunteer leader may use facilities regularly. Contact your Community Education Co-ordinator for more information. Annual participant fees are as follows:
Adult (gym use): *$35 per event Adult (non-gym use): *$25 per event Youth (ages 16 and under): *No cost
* These rates are currently subsidized by the Ministry of Education. “Community Use Funding” is a provincial initiative that supports access to school space outside of school hours for not-for-profit community groups.
Please note:
Schools are available for use during the summer months. However, ALL bookings must be made with the appropriate Community Education Co-ordinator PRIOR to MAY 31st. Bookings will not be made after that date.
