Schools With Available Space
Partnership Opportunities
The impact of declining enrolment has resulted in excess space in schools across the Province of Ontario. In February, 2010, the Ontario Ministry of Education issued a “Guideline for Facility Partnerships” which outlined a strategy for developing partnership opportunities with interested parties and community organizations who may wish to utilize the excess space. These guidelines were incorporated into Bluewater District School Board’s Facility Partnership Policy and Procedures in May 2010.
Interested partners must have goals which are congruent to those of the Bluewater District School Board, demonstrate an active concern for student safety and achievement and be financially capable of supporting a lease, based on a cost recovery formula.
The following schools have been identified as potential locations for partnership development.
Dundalk & Proton Community School, Paisley Central Elementary School,
Dundalk, Ontario Paisley, Ontario
G.C. Huston Public School, St. Edmunds Public School,
Southampton, Ontario Tobermory, Ontario

Future Opportunities
The planned construction of a new JK to Grade 12 school facility in Walkerton will result in the closing of two schools effective September 2012. It is expected that these schools or portions of these facilities may be determined surplus to the Board’s needs and be subject to Regulation 444/98 under the Education Act. This information is being provided to assist individuals with long range planning and potential opportunities in the area as required by the Ministry. For further information, please contact Sally Kidson, Community Outreach Coordinator at sally_kidson@bwdsb.on.ca or 1-800-661-7509, ext. 2017.
