Director’s Message – UPDATED May 2, 2017
As schools across our district celebrate Education Week, I would like to take this opportunity to recognize our exceptional staff in Bluewater District School Board, who dedicate their lives day in and day out, to serving the diverse needs and best interests of our students and families.  Whether you work in a school, are an administrator, hold a system wide role, or have responsibility for the upkeep of our facilities, your contribution is vitally important to ensuring a safe and positive learning culture in Bluewater where every student can thrive.  As Wednesday, May 3 is Support Staff Appreciation Day, I would also like to join OSSTF/FEESO in recognizing the many invaluable contributions of our excellent support staff.
The theme of Education Week for this year is “Ontario150”.  Thanks to the efforts of our staff, history and heritage are well reflected year round in the learning that occurs within Bluewater.  A few recent examples include students’ participation in the Vimy 100th anniversary commemoration in France, the many excellent projects on display at the Grey Roots Regional Heritage Fair, students’ exploration of local cultural icons such as Agnes Macphail, among many others.  Our students are also engaged in continuous learning that is focused on the contributions of our Indigenous communities, whose history and culture go well beyond the past 150 years.

It is important during Education Week that we also acknowledge the countless volunteers, parents, students, trustees, and community partners, who support our schools in a variety of meaningful ways that are too many to list.  From fundraising and nutrition programs to committee work, your support is imperative to building and sustaining a strong local public education system.

In closing, I encourage you to share on your social media networks any examples that demonstrate how our schools are recognizing Education Week.  Please use our hashtag, #EdWeekBWDSB, as we would love to highlight some of these examples on our board website and Twitter account.

Thank you again for all that you do for our students!
