As the holiday break gets underway, I would like to wish every Bluewater District School Board student, parent/guardian, staff member, trustee, education partner, and others within our communities and their families all the joy, peace, and kinship that the season has to offer.
Whether you celebrate Christmas or another tradition, it is imperative that you set some time aside where you can pause from the busy and sometimes stressful routine of every day matters to relax, reflect, and tend to your own personal well-being. As I have stated many times before, one of my key areas of focus as Director of Education continues to be mental health and wellness. I know that this time of year can be a difficult trigger for some. Even if your situation warrants quiet respite as opposed to jubilant celebration, I hope that you are able to use this opportunity to practice some rewarding acts of self-care.
With the end of 2018 now clearly in our sights, it is also an opportune time to look back on the past 12 months in Bluewater. I am so proud of the many noteworthy accomplishments and examples of excellence by our students and the staff who support them. Please take a few moments at your leisure to review my Director’s Annual Report, which I presented to our trustees at the December 18, 2018 Regular Meeting of the Board. This year, we were thrilled to enlist the skills and creative talents of a
Specialist High Skills Major – Design student at Grey Highlands Secondary School, who developed the layout. As always, the intent of this report is to provide a mere snapshot of some of the numerous highlights of the year from each of our board’s four strategic priority areas. I look forward to working closely with the recently elected Board of Trustees in 2019 in leading another multi-year strategic planning process with our stakeholders.
Lastly, I wish to thank all of the aforementioned groups and individuals for their hard work, commitment, and perseverance over the course of 2018 in ensuring a strong and thriving public education system in Bluewater. It is through everyone’s unique skill sets and contributions that our small but mighty rural board maintains a standard of excellence and exemplary learning environment that easily rival any, and are the envy of many!
Please accept my sincerest greetings to you and yours for the happiest of holidays and a prosperous New Year. I look forward to seeing and working with you in 2019!
