The scenic Beaver Valley and renowned ski slopes of The Blue Mountains border the eastern part of the district, while several kilometres of sandy beaches, meandering rivers and welcoming communities adorn the Lake Huron shore to the west. In the south, one of the best family canoe routes in Ontario can be found in gorgeous Saugeen country.  hile the district's geography is mostly rural, the City of Owen Sound has been recognized as a Cultural Capital of Canada with its small shops, restaurants, urban shopping mall, museums, art galleries, theatre for performing arts and brand new regional recreation centre.
