ELEMENTARY FRENCH TEACHERS
Bluewater District School Board is accepting applications for Elementary Core French and French Immersion permanent and long-term occasional, part-time and full-time teaching positions for the 2012/2013 school year.
Bluewater District School Board covers Bruce and Grey counties including the communities of Owen Sound, Walkerton, Kincardine, Hanover, Meaford, Port Elgin, Southampton, Wiarton, Chesley, Markdale, Flesherton and Thornbury.
Candidates must hold qualifications to teach French at the elementary level and must be current members of the Ontario College of Teachers.
Note: Although French qualifications are preferred, Ontario College of Teachers members without French qualifications could be hired on a Temporary Letter of Approval from the Ministry of Education. Applicants without French qualifications should be able to demonstrate sufficient French language skills.

SUMMER SCHOOL TEACHING POSITION
Summer School relies on dynamic teachers who are committed to creating an engaging environment that helps students to develop and apply their skills in an exciting way.
Daily hours: Grades 7 to 12 classes are 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Salary: $39.39 (per the current O.S.S.T.F. Collective Agreement).
Elementary Program
For elementary students, the Board will offer the following courses:
“Power-up” Literacy at both Grade 7 and Grade 8 levels;
Math “Booster” Camp at both Grade 7 and Grade 8 levels;
Bridge to Success for Grade 7 and 8 students.

Secondary Program
For secondary students, the following types of courses will be offered:
Transfer - for students who wish to switch from Grade 9 applied Math to Grade 10 academic math;
Upgrading - for students who have completed a course with a mark of 40% or higher and wish to improve their standing;
New Credit - for students who have not previously studied the subject or who have previously completed the course with a mark below 40%; may be offered through online or through face to face formats
Co-op - Two credit co-ops for students who have prearranged a placement, with work hours to occur during the new credit session dates. ~In class hours to be announced.
Classes will be offered at Owen Sound Collegiate & Vocational Institute in Owen Sound. Courses will run only if qualified teachers are available and an average minimum class size can be established.

This position is for a secondment commencing September 1, 2012 and ending June 30, 2013. Following completion of this term, the position may be extended dependent on mutual agreement and the continuation of Ministry funding.
The Student Work Study Teacher will partner with Classroom Teachers in designated schools as these teachers:
- Share observation of how students approach the work
- Assess samples of student work in relation to curriculum expectations and learning goals
- Describe precisely what is demonstrated in the work
- Determine the student learning needs and what to do to improve the work towards the next level
- Provide specific feedback and coaching to students as the improve their work
- Determine next steps in instruction
- Identify teaching and learning strategies that effectively address the diverse needs of students
Additionally, the Student Work Study Teacher will:
- Facilitate teacher moderation of student work in designated schools
- Promote strategies from Ministry resources to assist teachers in developing tasks that result in high quality student work – incorporating knowledge and understanding, critical and creative thinking, application and communication
- Collect data regarding the impact of this student work initiative on student achievement in the designated schools
Criteria for selection of Student Work Study Teacher:
- Hold qualifications in primary and junior division
- Experienced in teacher moderation of student work
- Skilled in providing specific feedback to students
- Knowledgeable about instruction and pedagogy in reading, writing and mathematics
- Skilled at designing instruction for higher order critical and creative thinking
- Respected as a facilitator of collegial professional learning

Two full-time (2.0 FTE) teachers for the Keystone Child, Youth and Family Services- Walkerton- Community Day Treatment Section 23 Class located in Walkerton for students in treatment for mental health issues. The successful applicant will be required to teach a variety of subject areas – elementary and secondary. Subject areas could include (but are not limited to): English, math, learning strategies, history, geography, and careers and civics. Courses offered are dependent on the needs /requirements of students enrolled in class.
KEYSTONE – SAUGEEN Student Achievement Lead – Melissa McEwen
One full-time (1.0 FTE) teacher for the Keystone Child, Youth and Family Services – Saugeen- Community Day Treatment Section 23 Class located at Saugeen District Secondary School for students in treatment for mental health issues. The successful applicant will be required to teach a variety of subject areas- elementary and secondary. Subject areas could include (but are not limited to): English, math, learning strategies, and Healthy Active Living. Courses offered are dependent on the needs /requirements of students enrolled in class.

The successful applicant will be required to teach a variety of subject areas- elementary and secondary. HINCKS Student Achievement Lead – Melissa McEwen
Two full-time (2.0 FTE) teacher for Hincks-Dellcrest Farm Program. This residential treatment program is located at the Hincks-Dellcrest Farm in the Beaver Valley. The successful applicant will be required to teach a variety of subject areas – elementary and secondary. Subject areas could include (but are not limited to): English,general learning strategies, coop and other independent courses required by students to meet graduation requirements OR math, Physical Education, coop and other independent courses required by students to meet graduation requirements.
PINE HILL Student Achievement Lead – Melissa McEwen
One full-time (1.0 FTE) teacher for Pine Hill. This Open Custody and Detention facility is located between Desboro and Chesley. Technology qualifications required. The successful applicant will be required to teach construction technology and support students working on other independent courses required to meet graduation requirements.
For all Section 23 programs the successful candidate will:
- provide the educational program for Intermediate and Senior students in program;
- work in partnership with agency staff and other local agencies to address individualized learning needs of the students attending the class;
- complete required Ministry documentation for students in program;
- address students’ behavior difficulties that may interfere with their progress in collaboration with agency staff and parents/guardians;
- provide agency staff with information regarding the school system which may assist in making decisions pertaining to discharge, program development and relevant contacts; and
- plan for and provide transition support to students entering/leaving the program.
These assignments will provide opportunities for the successful applicant to develop and refine communication, leadership and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications:
Evidence of educational assessment skills and individualized program planning
Experience in co-ordinating services for students who are at-risk
Experience working effectively with a team
Intermediate / Senior qualifications preferred
Experience teaching in a section 23 program or alternative program preferred

One part-time (0.5 FTE) Itinerant Teacher of the Blind – Student Services
This teacher will provide intensive, specialized instruction for students with identified, vision disabilities. Self-advocacy and self-management skills, as well as instruction on the use of assistive technology could also be included in program goals. The teacher will be required to provide staff development and the support of school-based teams in building staff capacity in order to meet students’ needs.
Qualifications:
Valid Certificate of Registration and Qualifications from the Ontario College of Teachers.
Specialist of the Blind (or willingness to obtain) or minimum of Teaching Students who are Blind
Qualifications Part 1.
Proven experience teaching blind and low vision students in academic and in programs for multi
handicapped students.
Knowledge of curriculum adaptations, methods and materials to assist visually impaired students
including Braille skills (transcription/reading)
Exemplary skill in communication and collaboration in order to liaise with school personnel.
Willingness to provide, in conjunction with other staff, consultation and in-service opportunities to build
capacity within the district.

One part-time (0.5 FTE) Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing – Student Services
This position is to support deaf and hearing impaired students in our system. Teaching Students who are deaf or hard of hearing, Part 1 qualifications or equivalent as per Reg. 296 and Special Education qualifications and experience is required. Special Education Specialist is preferred and fluency in sign language is preferred. Knowledge of Sound Field Systems and Cochlear Implants is an asset. The successful candidate should possess excellent communication skills, flexibility and be able to work as part of a team. The individual must have a vehicle and a valid driver’s license in good standing. Schedule is to be determined.
