School Community Councils
Overview

The Bluewater District School Board believes that the education of our children is a shared responsibility among school, home and the community.  In order to support these partnerships every school has a School Community Council.

The role of School Community Councils is to enhance student learning by:
a)      acting in an advisory role on issues identified by consensus within the School Community Council
b)      acting in an advisory role on issues identified by the school and/or Board/School Group Council

The following provides an overview of the membership of School Community Councils:

1.   School Community Councils:
        a)      seek active representation from parents, staff, students, and the wider community;
        b)      seek to reflect the needs, uniqueness and diversity of the school community.

2.   Members of a School Community Council shall include, but are not limited to:
- parents of students enrolled in the school;
- community representatives;
- a student (mandatory in secondary schools; in elementary schools, at the discretion of the principal);
- the school principal;
- a teacher;
- a non-teaching staff member.
        Parents form the majority of members of School Community Councils.

If you are interested in learning more about your school's advisory council please contact the principal of your local school.
