We are pleased to celebrate some of the many examples of staff excellence in Bluewater District School Board with our new alumni profile feature! This week, we highlight some of our former graduates whose career pathways have led them back to Bluewater to serve another generation of local students and families.

Current position: Speech-Language Pathologist, Bluewater District School Board Education Centre

What Bluewater school(s) did you attend as a student? Port Elgin-Saugeen Central School (Go Wildcats!), Saugeen District Secondary School (Go Royals!)

What year did you graduate from Bluewater? 1985

Please provide a brief summary of the career pathways (e.g. post-secondary studies and subsequent employment) you pursued after graduating from Bluewater.
McMaster University – undergraduate in Psychology
Brock University – Teacher's College
State University of New York at Buffalo – Masters in Speech Pathology
Returned to Port Elgin in 1993, worked at the Hanover Hospital, Markdale Hospital and Grey Bruce Children's Services (now Keystone) before starting with the Bruce County Board of Education in 1995
What has been your greatest career achievement thus far?

My greatest achievement has been promoting understanding of the links between oral language and literacy across ALL of Bluewater!

How has your education in Bluewater prepared you for your career pathway?

Fantastic teachers at PESCS, fantastic teachers at SDSS – I was an active participant in extracurricular activities at both schools and have great memories of each of them. I never actually thought I would come back and work in the schools I used to go to.
Bluewater District School Board is located on the traditional land of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, which is represented by the communities of Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation.
