As part of Ontario's ongoing efforts to build and improve local schools, the province has given Bluewater District School Board approval to tender a child care centre addition to Egremont Community School.

The $2.9 million investment will add a new, quality learning environment for the children of Holstein.  The addition will also add an EarlyON Child and Family Centre to the school.  This project is part of the province’s capital investment program to build more child care spaces for Ontario’s families.

“The funding for this child care centre addition to Egremont Community School is great news for our community,” said Bill Walker, MPP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound.  “This investment will provide choice and flexibility for families and new opportunities for the children of Holstein and surrounding area.”

Ontario’s investment in new and updated schools will create the foundation for a modern learning environment for hundreds of students across the province.

“We are taking action to ensure that families in Holstein deserve access to safe and affordable child care,” said Education Minister Stephen Lecce.  “Our government is proud to support the creation of new child care spaces at Egremont Community School, while increasing financial support for families through the expanded Ontario’s Child Care Tax Credit, saving a family on average $1500 per year.”

Highlights of the child care centre addition include:

• 39 new licensed child care spaces
• 2 new child care rooms
• 2 new EarlyON Child and Family Centre rooms

“We are thankful to the Ministry of Education for continuing to invest in our area’s youngest learners and their families as they prepare for the pivotal transition to elementary school,” said Bluewater District School Board Chair Jane Thomson.  “Today’s announcement will allow us to move forward in expanding the existing Holstein Kids & Us program on the Egremont Community School site by increasing capacity and improving learning spaces for our children and future students.  We are excited to work in tandem with our child care partners to bring this project to fruition to meet the needs of our local families.”

Bluewater District School Board Chair Thomson, Area Trustee Jim Dawson, and Director of Education Lori Wilder joined MPP Walker, along with Grey County and Township of Southgate representatives, Kids & Us child care partners, and members of the media on Friday, June 11, 2021 for a virtual announcement in celebration of the news.
