It was smooth sailing for Mr. Koeslag's Grade 8 students at Holland-Chatsworth Central School.... sort of!  A recent class trip to Camp Celtic in Lion's Head enabled an opportunity for the students to test the waters, so to speak.  The students brought their new boat creations, which they had built and painted at school using 4 x 8 pieces of cardboard.

In an ultimate test of durability, a boat war was held.  During the showdown, students were not allowed to touch other boats, but could design water throwing devices with cardboard to sink their competitors.  It was a fun and truly 'refreshing' experiential learning opportunity exposing students to the skilled trades!
