Excellence in Education – Awards of Excellence
Trustees recognized the 2024 Awards of Excellence recipients from each ‘family of schools’ for their outstanding contributions to our education system in Bluewater District School Board. From school councils, nutrition programs, and fundraising, to literacy, environmental education, and parent engagement, the following volunteers were honoured for the many ways in which they support student success and well-being.

Delegation
A delegation from Gord Dunbar, Christina Wahi, and Sandy Blackwood highlighted the efforts of Kincardine Pride to support local members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Bluewater District School Board was thanked for its ongoing support and advocacy for ALL students, especially those who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+, and for providing a safe atmosphere in which students can be affirmed in their diversity.

Field Trip Update
The following field trips were approved:
  • Bruce Peninsula District School Fall Hike Outers Program, October 16 to 18, 2024
  • John Diefenbaker Senior School New York 2025 field trip, May 15 to 18, 2025, contingent that it aligns with all travel advisories at the time of trip
Policy Update
The following items were approved:
  • current BP 1107-D “Performance Review – Director of Education” to be marked as under review on the board website, as it conflicts with the requirements of Ontario Regulation (O. Reg.) 83/24, until such time that a revised BP 1107-D is approved to replace it
  • board policy BP 6601-D “Student Awards and Recognition” as revised for system use
Business Committee Update / 2024-2025 Budget Passed
The report from the meeting held on June 4, 2024 included the following:
  • presentation on revenue, expenses, and reserves for 2024-2025
  • report outlining signing authority on the disposition or purchase of land from June 27 through to September 3, 2024
  • revenue and expenditure forecasts to March 31, 2024
  • confirmation of funding of more than $28 million for a new growth school in Dundalk
Trustees approved the 2024-2025 budget in the amount of $277,378,764 in revenues, $277,126,977 in expenses, and $251,787 in net reserve contributions.

Approval was also provided to delegate authority to the Director of Education and Superintendent of Business Services and Treasurer to sell or purchase land for the period of June 27 through to September 3, 2024.

Committee of the Whole In-Camera Report
Trustees approved motions to ratify both memorandums of settlement with ETFO Bluewater Occasional Teachers’ Local and ETFO Teacher’s Bargaining Unit Bluewater Local for the period September 1, 2022 to August 31, 2026.
 
Student Senate Report
Student Trustee Macy Robinson presented an update on year-end activities in schools, including exams, final projects, assemblies, athletics, award banquets, plays, music, carnivals, an ice cream day, and events aimed at raising anti-vaping/smoking awareness and promoting equity during Pride Month. There have also been art showcases, spirit weeks with dress-up themes, and prom events occurring throughout the district. School trips have included Algonquin Park and the annual Footprints conference at Cyprus Lake (Bruce Peninsula District School) and an opportunity to recognize D-Day in Europe (Owen Sound District Secondary School). Grade 9 students recently completed their EQAO assessments in mathematics.

Provincial, National, and International Award Recognition 2023-2024
Students and staff who were the recipients of provincial and national awards over the past school year were recognized for their outstanding accomplishments.

Multi-Year Strategic Plan Priorities Update 2024-2025
A detailed overview was provided on the strategies and initiatives of Bluewater District School Board’s Multi-Year Strategic Plan that were implemented over the past year and next steps that are planned moving forward in each of the strategic priority areas.
