Ms. Brown and Mrs. Klein's kindergarten class at Spruce Ridge Community School in Durham has been busy immersed in literacy this year. This past April, Scholastic issued a reading challenge where, for every 100 books read, a book donation would be made to participating organizations in need. Thanks to the efforts of students and their families, Spruce Ridge reached that goal. The school received a certificate and celebrated with a PJ day. In fact, the school has been able to reach an impressive goal of 1,000 books since the beginning of the year through a challenge that was issued by Mrs. Nebb, and supported with the help of Mrs. Klages' Grade 4 students. To celebrate the 1,000 book milestone, a book party was held where students dressed as a character from a book, had mystery guest readers stop by the classroom, and much more.
