We are pleased to celebrate some of the many examples of staff excellence in Bluewater District School Board with our new alumni profile feature! This week, we highlight some of our former graduates whose career pathways have led them back to Bluewater to serve another generation of local students and families.

Name:  Tina Buttineau

Current position:  Grade 1/2 French Immersion Teacher, Hepworth Central Public School

What Bluewater school(s) did you attend as a student?  Bayview Public School, Strathcona Senior Public School, Owen Sound Collegiate and Vocational Institute

What year did you graduate from Bluewater?  2012

Please provide a brief summary of the career pathways (e.g. post-secondary studies and subsequent employment) you pursued after graduating from Bluewater.

After completing a Bachelor of Arts Degree at Western University, where I studied Dance and French Language and Literature, I went on to complete a Bachelor of Education degree at Nipissing with French as my teachable.  I was very fortunate to have completed all of my practicum placements in Bluewater District School Board.  Upon graduation from Nipissing in June 2017, I immediately began teaching with Bluewater. I also teach dance at DanceMakers in Owen Sound.

What has been your greatest career achievement thus far?

Personally, the highlight of my career so far is seeing how excited my students are to come to school and learn every day.

How has your education in Bluewater prepared you for your career pathway?

It was all of the amazing teachers I had the privilege of having throughout my Bluewater education that inspired me to become a teacher.  I was able to take many different classes that helped me find subjects that I was very passionate about, and that I may not have otherwise had the opportunity to experience. My Bluewater education fostered my love for learning, and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to give back to this community.

Other comments:

I couldn't imagine myself working for another board.  Bluewater District School Board is very supportive and inspiring for me as a new teacher.
