Celebrating Education Week, May 4–8

With Education Week in Ontario occurring from May 4 – 8, 2020, Bluewater District School Board is inviting students, staff, and families to share their examples of learning while schools remain closed due to COVID-19.

Education Week is a provincially recognized annual celebration of excellence and achievement in public education held during the first full week of May. Bluewater District School Board honours this special occasion each year to showcase the importance of a strong and vibrant public education system, and the many individuals whose amazing contributions support it.

During the current unprecedented shift in how learning is being delivered as a result of the pandemic, there is heightened awareness around the need to maintain continuity of the many excellent programs and opportunities that foster student success and well-being.

Bluewater District School Board is looking to highlight the innovative ways in which students are furthering their knowledge and being engaged through distance learning. Images and brief anecdotes of online and home-based learning activities, as well as efforts to maintain connections between students and staff, are being posted on the board’s Facebook and Twitter pages. Those wishing to contribute are encouraged to share their examples on social media using the hashtag, #EdWeekBWDSB.

“As our public education system deals with the complex challenges imposed by COVID-19, it is especially critical that we remind ourselves of the exceptional creativity and hard work that is happening to support continued student learning,” says Director of Education Alana Murray. “Education Week is an opportunity for us to celebrate and thank our Bluewater District School Board students, staff, families, and partners, who are supporting one another and maintaining a strong public education system in Bruce and Grey counties.”
