Lest We Forget

On November 11, Bluewater District School Board joins fellow Canadians in honouring our country’s many brave war heroes, both past and present, whose sacrifices have ensured the freedoms and lifestyle we are privileged to enjoy today.

Students and staff are participating in a variety of activities that serve to respectfully commemorate the critically important role and heroism of these dedicated men and women. It is also a chance to increase learning and awareness of our storied history in relation to our present day liberties, advancements, strengths, and opportunities as a nation. Schools are demonstrating this through Remembrance Day themed assemblies, presentations, drama productions, art projects, and visits to local cenotaphs.

With the recent celebration of Treaties Recognition Week in Bluewater, it is important to extend this awareness to Aboriginal Veteran’s Day (November 8) in recognition of those in Canada’s Indigenous communities who served during wars and conflict.

To mark Remembrance Day, national flags are once again being lowered at all schools, the Bluewater District School Board Education Centre, and other board locations from the beginning until the end of the day on Monday, November 11, 2019.
