Milestones and retirements were celebrated as part of an annual Bluewater District School Board end-of-school year tradition. Retiring staff and those achieving length of service anniversaries were joined by family members, colleagues, and other supporters for a very special evening at Stone Tree in Owen Sound on Thursday, June 20, 2024.
The Long Service and Retirement Recognition Reception began with social time, followed by a reflection from Superintendent of Education Keith Lefebrve prior to a delicious meal for all the guests. Director of Education Lori Wilder, who handled emcee duties, kicked off the formal part of the event with words of welcome before introducing Chair Jane Thomson to bring greetings on behalf of the Board of Trustees.
Trustees and superintendents were paired up to present long service awards in the categories of 25, 30, 35, 40, and even 45 years! This year’s retirees were then recognized at the podium for their many contributions to students and families throughout their careers.
Following presentations, guest speakers Heather Bender (long service) and Denise Nixon (retirees) entertained, inspired, and warmed hearts with humour-tinged messages of wisdom, hope, and love. View their speeches at the links below.
