Paul Bolton on the fieldIt is the end of an era for a long standing sporting tradition in Bluewater District School Board. Paul Bolton, a teacher at Arran-Tara Elementary School, has been running flag football tournaments at the school for 23 seasons. With his upcoming retirement, this impressive streak culminated in an 'end of an era' wrap-up on Thursday, May 16, 2024.

For the final showdown, 48 teams from 15 schools across the district attended. Every team was guaranteed four games with the chance to play for a banner in the Boys A, Boys B, and Girls divisions. After a very competitive day, the following teams were declared victorious.

Boys A
1. Arran-Tara Elementary School A1
2. Walkerton District Community School
3. Beaver Valley Community School A1
Boys B
1. Georgian Bay Community School
2. Peninsula Shores District School
3. Hepworth Central Public School

Girls
1. Saugeen District Senior School
2. Osprey Central School
3. Macphail Memorial Elementary School

Each top team was presented with a championship belt.

Funds were raised through registration along with food and drink sales. Mr. Bolton is very pleased to announce that over $2,500 will be split between the Tara Area Food Bank, Pinball Clemons Foundation, and another local charity.

Glorious weather and great sportsmanship carried the day to a very successful conclusion. Mr. Bolton is happy to announce that the tournament will receive a new home in Port Elgin next year.
Bluewater District School Board is located on the traditional land of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, which is represented by the communities of Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation.
