Despite the inclement weather, students continued their learning journey with enthusiasm and dedication.

In a primary Grade 1 and 2 class, students had just completed their UFLI (early literacy) session and were delving into weather facts, a fitting topic given the snowy conditions. One curious student inquired about wind speeds and how they influence the decision to close schools. This interaction highlighted the students' eagerness to understand the world around them.

Meanwhile, in a Grade 7 and 8 class, students were busy working on their speeches. One proud student excitedly shared their progress with the Lexia Core5 program, showcasing the personalized learning experience it offers. Superintendent Lefebvre explained that many people believe no new learning occurs on snow days, but the students' activities clearly demonstrated otherwise.
Applications like Knowledgehook and Lexia are particularly valuable on snow days, as they allow students to be grouped based on their individual profiles and to continue learning new material. Literacy groups using the Empower program also occur when trained staff can safely reach the school. In addition, educators offer literacy and math lessons using different approaches to support all students in remaining engaged in meaningful learning.

Superintendent Lefebvre's visit underscored the commitment of Arran-Tara Elementary School to fostering a dynamic and adaptive learning environment, even on snow days. This dedication ensures that students continue to thrive academically, regardless of the weather conditions.

Today's lesson is that if you can get your students to school safely on a snow day, please do so! This helps to avoid learning loss on days when Mother Nature is not cooperating. Superintendent Lefebvre has also visited other Bluewater District School Board schools in Port Elgin and Southampton and witnessed the same high quality instruction on snow days.
Bluewater District School Board is located on the traditional land of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, which is represented by the communities of Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation.
