Grown in Grey welcomed students, teachers, and volunteers to an in-person, hands-on agriculture learning event on April 14 and 15 at the Desboro Community Centre.
Grown in Grey is designed to educate you about agriculture and related industries in Grey County. Approximately 600 Grade 5 students from 12 Bluewater District School Board schools participated, exploring over 30 interactive learning stations.
At lunchtime, students enjoyed a lively “Kitchen Party” concert featuring Canadian music, including the Grown in Grey song.
Local initiatives like Grown in Grey and Roots of Bruce highlight the pride farmers have in their work and the importance of sharing agricultural stories with local youth.
The event is made possible through the dedication and support of many organizations, commodity groups, farmers, educators, and volunteers.
Thank you to all participating classes, teaching staff, and volunteers for making this year’s event such a success.
Since its launch in 1997, more than 12,000 Grey County students have attended Grown in Grey, leaving with a stronger understanding of agriculture and its role in the fabric of the community.
This year marked the 29th anniversary of the program. Planning is already underway for the 30th anniversary in 2027.
