Holiday Hampers Help Local Families
Posted on 12/17/2020
Georgian Bay Community School (GBCS) recently held a pair of 'hamper pick-up days' to help local families during the holidays. There are 36 families receiving hampers, which amounts to approximately 52 GBCS students in both elementary and secondary.
Thanks are extended to all the teachers who helped to make phone calls and pack boxes. The local community contributed in a HUGE way to the hampers in the form of money, products, and donations. Assistance came from all over The Blue Mountains, Meaford, and the broader Grey Bruce area.
Every family receives a ham, a frozen meal from a participating local restaurant, carrots and potatoes, cereal, oatmeal, peanut butter, tuna, KD, hot chocolate, popcorn, honey, jam, granola bars, bagels, cream cheese, yogurt, apples, holiday treats, cookies, soup, juice, crackers, raisins, and a block of cheese. They are also given another bag filled with toiletries, socks, mittens, hats, a grocery store gift card, gift packs, a pizza gift card, and in many cases, an extra 'something' needed, such as winter boots or snow pants.
Families have been so appreciative of the extra help this year. It helps to know that the basic needs of many students and their families will be met over the holidays.
GBCS wishes everyone all the very best this holiday season!
