Grey Highlands Secondary School hosted the annual Black Student Forum on November 13, 2025, with over 150 people in attendance. In addition to Grey Highlands, students participated from Georgian Bay Community School (Meaford), Kincardine District Senior School, Owen Sound District Secondary School, Saugeen District Senior School , and John Diefenbaker Senior School.
This event is dedicated to empowering Black students through education, mentorship, and community engagement. Organized in partnership with
JunCtian Community Initiatives and
Bluewater District School Board, the forum brought together students, educators, and industry professionals for a day of learning and inspiration.
The forum provided a platform for students to explore topics through interactive workshops and discussions, where they gained valuable insights into mental health, entrepreneurship, and skilled trades—areas that open doors to future opportunities.
One of the key benefits was the focus on mental health and systemic barriers, helping students understand how to navigate challenges while prioritizing their well-being. The day also featured performances and cultural celebrations that reinforced the importance of identity and community pride. Students had the chance to connect directly with mentors and guest speakers, including leaders in fields ranging from healthcare to media, who shared personal stories and strategies for success.
By fostering dialogue and providing hands-on learning experiences, the Black Student Forum continues to strengthen confidence, leadership, and resilience among Black youth. It stands as a powerful reminder that representation and opportunity are essential for building inclusive futures.
