Student writing on math sheet and holding protractor on deskBeaver Valley Community School students have been busily engaged in educational activities on snow days. Despite the inclement weather, many students show up and continue their learning with enthusiasm and dedication.

In a primary Grade 1-2 class, students absorbed in a math activity came up with different ways to represent amounts of coins and used small chalkboards to demonstrate their learning.

Lexia is also an important part of learning for many students, snow day or not. In a primary Grade 3 class, students solved a math problem involving whole parts and fractions. Using individual whiteboards, they showed their thinking and problem-solving skills.

Another group of Grade 3-4 students worked on illustrating their individually created animal books on habitats. Some Grade 3 students were also eager to share with Principal Phillips their recently completed social studies poster projects on the different landforms. The students were keen to explain that the posters needed to include a description of the land, information about the climate, the types of local industries available, and four interesting or fun facts about the region.

Meanwhile, students in a Grade 6 classroom could recently be seen fully focused on measuring acute, obtuse, right, and straight angles.

In Grade 7-8 classes, some students have been completing projects on novel studies with others dedicating their efforts to math, and even coding with their teacher Mrs. Wolski! One student shared a presentation on the Impressionist painter Monet. Students later recounted the experience with Principal Phillips about how they were tasked with choosing an artist to present on their particular style and masterpieces.

Beaver Valley Community School is yet another shining example of the meaningful ongoing learning that occurs throughout Bluewater District School Board on snow days.
Bluewater District School Board is located on the traditional land of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, which is represented by the communities of Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation.
