Through the support of Canadian Parents for French Ontario and ImmersART, a grant connecting French Immersion schools with arts and culture non-profit organizations, bilingual hip hop/rap/soul artist Missy D offered a string of performances on October 16 and 17.

Nearly 2,000 Grades 4 to 12 students spanning 12 Bluewater District School Board (BWDSB) schools sang along enthusiastically as Missy D’s deep and soulful voice resonated throughout the concert space with DJ Slippee providing a perfect backdrop of tantalizing beats.
Missy D’s message of identity, resilience, and joy left an unforgettable impression with the student attendees. From “Case Départ” to “Matin, Midi, Soir”, she reminded us that “en français, c’est le grand amour” and “je suis là – matin, midi, soir.”

Following her performances, some of the students had a chance to participate in a Q and A. Questions ran the full spectrum – from her favourite artists and sources of inspiration, to whether or not she had a dog! Missy D responded to all the inquiries graciously and reinforced the message that every little step counts towards your dreams.

BWDSB extends thanks to our partners at Canadian Parents for French Ontario and ImmersART, and our dedicated French programming staff who were instrumental in coordinating the performances. We also recognize our hosting Grey Highlands and East Ridge students and staff, who came together to help us celebrate language, culture, and community!
Bluewater District School Board is located on the traditional land of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, which is represented by the communities of Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation.
