Observed annually on October 2, it is an opportunity to express gratitude for the many ways in which these dedicated professionals support our learning and working environments by keeping our facilities and properties in tiptop condition and functioning safely.

The responsibilities of BWDSB custodial and maintenance staff go far beyond what the eye can see. In addition to maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming spaces, these workers must be prepared to respond quickly to the day-to-day challenges and unexpected situations that arise in our schools and work sites. They play an essential role in the success of our education system through their skills, adaptability, and commitment to ensuring students and staff can learn, work, grow, and thrive in their environments. Often working behind the scenes, they make a visible difference every day.

On National Custodial Workers’ Recognition Day, and throughout the year, please take a moment to thank a custodian or maintenance worker for the role they play in supporting student achievement and well-being for all who enter our buildings.
Bluewater District School Board is located on the traditional land of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, which is represented by the communities of Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation.
