Grade 8 students from several local schools had a chance to explore the skilled trades and learn about Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs offered at Owen Sound District Secondary School (OSDSS) during visits in April.
The SHSM showcase days at OSDSS were held over two consecutive Thursdays, April 10 and 17, with each day hosting students from four partner schools. OSDSS students were on hand to assist teachers in sharing information and providing hands-on learning in workshops highlighting the school's varied SHSM programs. It was an incredible experiential opportunity for the Grade 8s to get a taste of course offerings in Transportation, Manufacturing, Construction, Hairstyling, Design Technology, Robotics, and Computer Technology.
Special presentations on student pathways also took place in Bailey Hall by representatives of Bluewater District School Board, the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program, Georgian and Fanshawe colleges, Nuclear Innovation Institute, and YMCA Owen Sound Grey Bruce.
